School History

Essendene Lodge was established as an independent school in 1966 by Mrs. Shirley Haydock and has thrived and grown over the past fifty years. We are a member of  the ISA (Independent School Association) and we are regulated and inspected by  the ISI  (Independent Schools Inspectorate).

Essendene Lodge School is a small, friendly and nurturing school with a excellent record of academic  achievement, we are very proud of the successes of our Year 6 leavers as year on year they secure a school of choice and 100% pass rate in entrance exams. Many extra curricular activities are provided and children benefit from a broad and varied curriculum. We believe that that we a give a best start to pupils to ensure that they continue to achieve success beyond Essendene Lodge School.

Mrs. Haydock and her children have all contributed to the school’s development.  The Haydock family have always managed the school, most notably Mr. Stephen Haydock  who was Headteacher from 2003- 2010.  During this time the school continued to grow in numbers and received an outstanding stamp from Ofsted. Mr. Haydock continued with the family ethos and the school became popular and  well known in the local area.

Mrs. Haydock continues to play an active role in the day to day running of the school and states, “I consider it a great honour that I remain The Principal of a school that has seen so many children progress into Secondary Education and have become confident and caring adults, some of which are now bringing their children to Essendene Lodge School. Indeed, Essendene has been the school of choice for some of my own children and grandchildren because  for me only the best will do!”

The  aim has always been to provide a happy, family friendly and stimulating environment  where each child was encouraged to reach their full potential. We create a stimulating atmosphere where learning becomes a natural and welcome part of a child’s development. We believe it is crucial to create a secure environment in order to build the confidence of the developing child.

Our small class sizes enable all our children to receive individual attention and a learning experience matched to their needs. Staff  are experienced and qualified, and specialist teachers are employed to teach some individual subjects such as ICT, PE and Modern Foreign Lanugages.

At its heart Essendene is a family orientated and child centred community.  Parents’ have a difficult choice when selecting a school for their child but once you have seen us we guarantee that your choice will be easier!
