At Essendene Lodge School we are passionate about Drama and the impact it can have on all childrens’ learning. Drama is taught as a stand alone subject to Year 1 to Year 6. These lessons provide children with the opportunity to explore various themes of their classroom learning through drama activities, such as role play, hot seating or improvisation.
Children develop confidence and the skills to speak in front of others as well as working together in groups to produce improvisations or short sketches. We encourage Drama to be used in all subjects as it is a fantastic way for children to be passionate about they’re learning and explore new areas in a hands on way.
The children in KS1 and Early Years perform in the annual nativity and also in our Spring Concert. This is an opportunity for the whole school to show case any performing arts talent.
KS2 children all take part in the End of Year whole school production. We are fortunate to have permanent access to a fully equipped stage. The two most recent productions, of The Sound of Music and Wizard of Oz have proved sell-out successes, producing rave reviews of West-End standards.
Drama Club is a popular extra-curricular club offered to KS2. The club allows children with particular performing talent or passion for drama to showcase their talents further. They have the opportunity to perform in a short production at Christmas, in the Spring Concert and compete in local Speech and Drama Festivals.
As a school we encourage all children to be involved in Drama activities as it will allow them to develop their imagination, explore new worlds and develop a stronger understanding for their learning through a hands on approach.
