Drama

Children like to move and interact with others and in Drama at Essendene Lodge, they are asked to do exactly this. Rather than sitting still, they are encouraged to move, speak and react to one another. Children respond positively to the imaginative and multi-sensory learning offered through Drama. This in turn helps them develop such skills as creativity, enquiry, communication, empathy, self confidence, cooperation, leadership and negotiation.

In Key Stage One, we focus on these invaluable skills as well as the use of diction and enunciation for clarity of meaning. In Key Stage Two, more technical drama techniques are taught, enabling the students to build upon the skills already accomplished, as well as gaining a deeper appreciation and understanding of literature.

Both Key Stages will have the opportunity to partake in theatrical performances:

  • KS1 – Nativity at the end of the autumn term.
  • KS2 – Musical production at the end of the summer term.

Pupils have a option to join the drama and musical theatre after school club.

There is also the opportunity for pupils to study the LAMDA syllabus, working towards exams which is the speech and drama equivalent of a music grade.

Most importantly, drama activities are fun – making learning both enjoyable and memorable.
