Drama
Drama plays a vital role in nurturing confident, expressive, and imaginative learners. Through storytelling, role play, movement, and performance, children develop strong communication and listening skills from an early age.
Our Drama curriculum encourages collaboration, empathy, and resilience. Children learn to work as part of a team, take turns and respect the contributions of others. Performances and informal sharing opportunities help to develop self-assurance and a positive sense of achievement. Annual performances include a Nativity for Key Stage 1 and a full scale musical production at the end of each year for all children in Key Stage 2. As well as class assemblies and entries into external drama festivals.
Drama is exceptional for developing vocal skills by training the voice to be a versatile, clear, and resonant instrument. It improves vocal projection, articulation, and expressive range, allowing speakers to convey emotion and character through pitch, tone, volume and pace, while building confidence and reducing anxiety in communication. Children are taught elocution to enhance diction and clarity of speech. They build confidence in speaking clearly and articulating their ideas.
LAMDA lessons are offered from Year 1 to Year 6 in which pupils can work towards external, internationally recognised exams. Essendene Lodge is proud of its 100% pass rate.
